An LED show needs four things: a dark room, enough clear space, good sound and the right slot in your programme. Check them with your venue before you book, and the act will look as strong as it does in the videos.
1. Lighting: plan the blackout
LED costumes look strongest in a dim or dark room. Ask the venue's lighting or AV team to:
- dim the house lights for the slot,
- switch off spotlights and washes aimed at the stage,
- agree the exact cue for the blackout and for the lights coming back up.
Daylight and bright ballroom lights wash the effect out. Outdoors, plan the show after dark.
2. Space: stage or clear floor
Send the size of the stage or the clear floor with your enquiry. As a guide:
- a tron group needs room for the dancers to move in a line and in formations,
- dancers with wings need extra width for the wings to open,
- an LED robot is tall and wide, so check door heights and the route from the changing room,
- LED poi need a clear circle around the performer, away from guests and decor,
- drums need stage space and a safe route to load them in, and water drums need a plan for the floor.
3. Sound
The show runs to music. Usually the venue's sound system or your DJ plays it. Agree who plays the track, send the file in advance and do a sound check before the guests arrive. For LED drummers, agree the sound levels with the venue.
4. Timing in the programme
Pick one moment when every guest is watching. Good slots are the opening, the product reveal, after the awards or lucky draw, the wedding entrance and the start of the dance floor. Avoid slots during speeches or while food is being served. The performers arrive early to set up and prepare, so plan a changing room near the stage.
5. Effects
CO2 jets, lasers and other interactive effects can be added to some acts. Many hotels in Singapore have rules on smoke and special effects, so check with the venue before you confirm.
6. Combine with other acts
LED acts can share the night with an emcee, a DJ or a live band. Give everyone the same run sheet so the handovers are clear.
7. Book in time
Book two to four weeks ahead where you can. For year-end events, Chinese New Year and wedding season, book earlier. If your date is close, ask anyway: last-minute requests within 48 hours are possible, depending on who is free. Read what sets the price or send your details.
